Set up a Charitable Fund

Setting up a charitable fund with the Community Foundation for Surrey is an excellent option if you have a passion to support a particular cause or area of Surrey or you would like to be actively engaged in your charitable giving but without the administrative burdens of establishing a charitable trust or foundation.

Whether you are an individual, family or business, we will work with you to create a fund, tailoring the criteria and priorities for the fund to ensure you achieve your charitable goals.

Your fund can either be a Flow-through fund, meaning donations to the fund are immediately available for awarding grants or an Endowment fund whereby a capital sum is invested with the resulting investment returns being made available for grant-giving in perpetuity – or a hybrid of the two.

What to expect

Setting up a charitable fund with us is easy:

  • Talk to us about what you want to achieve from your fund and to work out which type of fund is best for you
  • Choose a name for your fund
  • Sign our Fund Agreement which will set out the fund criteria

Transfer your funds to us, which will be identified separately in our accounts

Once your charitable fund is set up our expert team will recommend grant applications from local charities and community groups that meet your criteria up to four times a year. You will have the opportunity to visit the projects you have funded and build meaningful connections. You will also receive End of Grant reports so you can see the impact each grant has made.

Also, once you have set up a fund you will join our community of donors and fund holders. We hold regular gatherings so you can meet with other like-minded donors and you will receive regular updates from us on the wider developments across the Community Foundation.
