15 Years of Legacy Giving
The Mamie Mollan Fund is 15 years old this year – Mamie left a bequest of £100k in her will to support the local community – this was match funded by CFSurrey and has been invested for growth, meaning that the fund has awarded over £100k in the last 15 years but now has a value of over £240k – and will keep awarding grants to the local community for ever.
Mavis Edith Budd (known as Mamie) was born on 24th May 1926 and died on 9th April 2004. She was an author and painter; a charismatic lady, with a huge presence. She was a very caring person and would help anyone in trouble or crisis. She particularly wanted to support victims of Domestic Abuse.
Mamie lived at Mill Cottage, Hawkley, Liss and she had an open house policy – anyone in difficulty or in need of recuperation was welcome there and it became a sanctuary for those needing help.
The Mamie Mollan Fund enables her spirit of generosity and caring for those in need to live on.
Over the past fifteen years, the Fund has awarded more than £100,000 in grants to over 50 local charities, voluntary groups, each working at the forefront of need. The Fund’s impact has been reflected in the lives of the people and communities it has helped to lift up as an enduring legacy.
