Individual and Family Giving
Looking to give with confidence and to create lasting impact?
Considering giving locally within Surrey?
Many individuals and families want to make a meaningful difference through their charitable giving. But identifying the right organisations, understanding where the greatest need exists, and ensuring donations achieve real impact can be challenging.
Whether you are just starting your journey or already supporting charities, we can help you shape your giving around the causes and communities that matter to you.
By working with us, you benefit from local expertise while avoiding the administrative burden of managing charitable giving yourself.
At Community Foundation for Surrey, we help individuals and families give in a way that is informed, effective and rewarding. Our local knowledge, due diligence and relationships with community organisations mean you can give with confidence, knowing your generosity is reaching where it is needed most.
How can CFSurrey help?

Track and understand the difference your giving makes
Ways to Give
There are two main ways individuals and families give with the Community Foundation for Surrey.
Set up a charitable fund
Creating your own charitable fund allows you to support the causes you care about in a structured and strategic way.
We work with you to design the fund around your priorities, whether that’s supporting a particular community, issue, or group of organisations. You can stay involved in recommending grants while we manage governance, due diligence and reporting.
Many donors also use funds as a way to involve family members in giving and create a shared philanthropic legacy. To discuss setting up a charitable fund please contact us.
Give to a Collective Fund
If you prefer a simpler way to give, you can contribute to one of our collective funds. These funds pool donations from multiple donors to address key issues across Surrey, allowing your gift to support communities with the greatest need.
Our team identifies local organisations delivering impactful work and distributes grants on behalf of the fund.
Please see Our Funds for more detail about the collective funds we manage.
Donations can be made via our fundraising pages.
Philanthropy as a family
Do you already have a Family Foundation?
For many donors, giving becomes more meaningful when it is shared across generations, sometimes they chose to set up their own Family Foundation as a registered charity.
A Family Foundation is a type of private foundation established and funded by a family, with family members often managing the foundation and participating in its grant-making activities. It's a structure used by families to hold funds and donate for charitable purposes. These foundations can last as long as the family needs them and may provide tax benefits as registered charities.
We work with many families who want to involve children, siblings or wider family members in decisions about charitable giving. This can be a powerful way to pass on values, encourage discussion about social issues, and create a shared sense of purpose.
Alongside helping families with their giving in Surrey, we also host the Surrey Family Foundations Network – a peer community for families and trustees involved in philanthropy. This network provides a peer group where those who are running Family Foundations in Surrey can attend events online or in person. Our expert webinars cover mportant issues like managing investments, due diligence and succession planning. Our in person events often take place at art galleries or gardens and are an informal opportunity to talk to other trustees of foundations.
