Haslemere Challice
Community Fund

Specifically for the benefit of residents of Haslemere and the surrounding villages.

What is Haslemere Challice Community Fund?

The fund was established in partnership with the Challice Trust, originally established from a bequest made to the Haslemere community by Mrs Ruth Challice Bush in 1962. By working together we offer a fund that enables and encourages local giving so that we can develop a greater capacity to respond to local needs.

Since establishing the Fund has built an endowment of over £1million to support Haslemere and its residents. We have awarded over £499,919 in grants to a wide range of local charities and community organisations.

Why support the Haslemere Challice Community Fund?

As a town our needs are very specific, and local people are often faced with reduced access to facilities and funding. Our dedicated panel of local residents award grants to:

  • Help older or disadvantaged residents combat isolation and stay happy, healthy and included

  • Increase facilities, training, skills and experience for young people

  • Support local activities, services and community focal points

  • Fund projects that improve and preserve the village heritage, culture and environment

Examples of Haslemere Challice grants:

Shottermill Infant School Play Therapy – £2,400

Play Therapy to support pupils in coping with adverse needs in school. Play Therapy helps children to process their thoughts and feelings surrounding complex issues, making their time in school easier.

Music in Hospitals and Care – £7,378

Funding to continue a regular programme of live music at Holy Cross Hospital. Staff report that patients experience respite from emotional pain and distress, are less bored, feel more connected to other people around them, and are able to enjoy music that reminds them of the past.

Men Walk Talk – £2,500

Funding providing scope for a men’s mental health service which encourages opening up and talking to improve mental health and reduce male suicide.

Make a donation.

Donations can be made at any level, either as one-off donations or spread over a period of time. They can be donated as gifts of cash, legacies, shares, property or land.

The easiest way to give is through the form at the top of the page, which will direct your donation directly to Epsom & Ewell Community Fund. If you would prefer to make a bank transfer, please contact us.

Don’t forget Gift Aid! Using Gift Aid means that for every pound you give, the Epsom & Ewell Community Fund will receive an extra 25p from HM Revenue & Customs, helping your donation go further.

Leave a legacy or gift in your Will.

You may choose to support local charities in your Will or by creating an In Memory fund.

Every charitable gift in a will is entirely exempt from inheritance tax.
Additionally, the inheritance tax rate reduces from 40% to 36% if at least 10% of your estate goes to charity. Choosing to give in this way is an extraordinary act of compassion and commitment - one that will continue to make a lasting difference in the lives of people and communities across Surrey for generations to come.
