Surrey Hills Fund

Established in 2023, this fund was created to support community groups and projects that enable people of all ages to access and engage with the natural landscape of the Surrey Hills. The fund is particularly focused on reaching individuals who may face barriers to access—whether physical, social, economic, or cultural—and aims to ensure that the benefits of nature and outdoor spaces are shared more equitably across our communities.

Activities supported by the fund may include, but are not limited to:

✔ Educational visits and nature-based learning activities.
✔ Information and interpretation projects, such as notice boards, walking leaflets, websites, or initiatives promoting public transport access.
✔ Outreach programmes designed to engage disadvantaged or underrepresented groups.

In addition to grant funding, the fund may also provide advice and support to help organisations develop and deliver inclusive, impactful projects that connect people with the natural beauty of the Surrey Hills.

How to apply

Grants from this fund are awarded through the Foundation’s main grants round. To apply, organisations must first submit an Expression of Interest form.

Case Studies for Projects Funded

Discover how this fund is helping people across Surrey connect with the natural landscape of the Surrey Hills:

  • Surrey Hills Society
Funding contributed to the salary cost of a key staff member, supporting the organisation’s long-term sustainability and ability to continue engaging local communities with the Surrey Hills landscape.

  • Charity Buddy
Grant awarded to support work with Surrey residents focused on promoting natural, bee-centric practices—encouraging biodiversity and community-led conservation.

  • Surrey Hills National Landscape – Wing Tips Inspiring View
Support provided for a commemorative event marking the 80th anniversary of the B-17G (Flying Fortress) crash at Reigate Hill in 1945. The memorial, held at Gatton Hall and Reigate Hill, honoured the crew and raised awareness of local heritage within the natural landscape.

  • Surrey Hills Arts
Funding enabled creative engagement with nature and the Surrey Hills landscape, specifically targeting individuals and communities who may not usually have the opportunity to connect with the outdoors.
