The Horley Edmonds Community Fund: Supporting Local People for Generations
The Power of Giving Back Locally
Many people feel a deep connection to the place where they have lived, worked, or raised a family. For some, leaving a legacy gift is a meaningful way to give something back to that community long into the future. The Horley Edmonds Community Fund is a wonderful example of how a single legacy gift can create lasting impact for local people year after year.
The Story Behind the Fund
The Horley Edmonds Community Fund was established thanks to a generous legacy left by Cyril Edmonds, a respected local builder from Norwood Hill. Cyril bequeathed his estate to Horley Town Council with the intention that it should benefit the local community. The legacy was later transferred to the Community Foundation for Surrey (CFSurrey), enabling the Fund to be created and professionally managed for long-term community benefit.
Today, the Fund supports voluntary and community organisations, charities, and individuals in need within the Horley area. Grants have included Horley Flower Club, St Wilfrids Church, Reigate & Redhill Live at Home Scheme and YMCA West Surrey. By focusing on local priorities, it helps strengthen community life and ensures support reaches those who need it most.

Creating Long-Term Community Impact
Managed by CFSurrey, the Horley Edmonds Community Fund is part of a wider family of more than 15 Area Funds across Surrey, supporting everything from small villages to whole boroughs. Income from the Fund is distributed through grants, while the capital is protected to ensure the legacy continues to make a difference for generations to come.
This approach means that Cyril Edmonds’ generosity is not a one-off gift, but an enduring source of support that will benefit Horley long into the future.
Why Consider a Legacy Gift?
Leaving a gift in your Will to a local Area Fund is a powerful way to support the place that matters to you. Legacy gifts to charity are free from inheritance tax and can reduce the taxable value of your estate. There are also flexible options, including gifts of money, shares, land or property, or using a Deed of Variation after a loved one has passed.
Your Legacy, Your Community
The Horley Edmonds Community Fund shows how one person’s foresight can continue to transform lives locally. By leaving a legacy gift to one of CFSurrey’s Area Funds, you can ensure your values live on and help your community thrive for generations to come.
If you care about your local area, please consider leaving a gift in your Will to support your community’s future.
