Shepperton Studios Community & Education Fund

Launched in 2022, the Shepperton Studios Community Fund was established with an initial investment of £500,000 to support individuals and voluntary organisations serving Shepperton and the wider borough of Spelthorne. In August 2024, this commitment was strengthened with the introduction of the £250,000 Shepperton Studios Education Fund, focused on developing film, media and creative skills for young people through Shepperton Studios’ Virtual Academy.

Together, the funds aim to strengthen community wellbeing, reduce inequalities and nurture the next generation of creative talent. The primary areas of impact of the Funds have been in improving good health and wellbeing, reducing inequalities, education and poverty.

Impact Overview

Areas of Primary Impact

Supporting Community Wellbeing

Grants from the Community Fund have not only strengthened vital local services, but also helped residents access support, build confidence and stay connected. Examples of some the charities supported include:

  • National Childbirth Trust (Sunbury & Shepperton)
Supporting parents and carers through antenatal and postnatal classes, breastfeeding support and weekly parent and baby groups.

  • TALK Ashford
Enabling people with aphasia, often following stroke, to rebuild communication skills, confidence and independence.

  • Ashford Youth & Community Club
Expanding arts provision and introducing young people to creative pathways through partnerships with local artists and organisations.

We are absolutely delighted to receive funding support from Shepperton Studios Community Fund. Both our weekly drop-ins have been steadily building in momentum since returning to in-person support, so to know we are secure for another year is a huge relief. We look forward to supporting many more expectant and new parents/carers.

Investing in Education & Future Skills

The Education Fund is also opening doors for children and young people to explore careers in film, media and the creative industries. Examples of some the charities supported include:

  • Surrey SATRO
Supporting a new Vocational Skills for Stage & Screen course for young people aged 14–16, with a strong focus on widening participation and encouraging girls into vocational pathways.

  • Littleton Church of England Infant School
Enhancing computing and creative learning through animation, green screen technology and digital storytelling.

We are extremely grateful to have received a grant from the Shepperton Education Fund. It has enabled us to enhance our computing equipment and expand opportunities for children to create their own animations. This provides children with the chance to develop skills in areas that may support their future careers.

Lasting Local Impact

By combining community support with long-term investment in education, the Shepperton Studios Community and Education Funds are delivering meaningful, measurable impact across Spelthorne — improving wellbeing today while building opportunity for the future.

Senior Community Outreach and Education Manager, Shepperton Studios, Dan Burton said:

Our Shepperton Community Fund is now in its fourth year and it has been a pleasure to work with the Community Foundation for Surrey throughout. They are a fantastic local organisation who understand the values and criteria of our fund to fit best with applications. We are proud to have collaborated with Community Foundation for Surrey and to see the positive impact our support has had on so many groups and charities since we launched it in 2022. We encourage more groups and organisations to apply.
