Surrey Family Foundations Network

Connecting families committed to thoughtful and impactful philanthropy. 

Many families who manage charitable funds or foundations share a common experience: while philanthropy is deeply rewarding, it can also feel surprisingly isolated. 

The Surrey Family Foundations Network brings together families, trustees and donors who are passionate about making a difference through philanthropy. 

The Network provides a welcoming space to exchange ideas, learn from others and explore how family giving can create greater impact. 

A peer community for family philanthropy

Founded in 2022, the Network supports collaboration and shared learning between families involved in charitable giving across Surrey. 

Members include: 

  • Family foundations 

  • Family trusts 

  • Legacy fundholders 

  • Charities with family origins 

You do not need to hold a fund with the Community Foundation for Surrey to take part. 

Membership is free and open to those connected to family-led philanthropy in Surrey. 

The Network meets two to three times each year through a combination of online sessions and in-person events. 

Gatherings typically bring together 20–40 participants, creating a relaxed and collaborative environment where honest conversations about philanthropy can take place. 

Events and shared learning 

Topics are shaped by members and often include: 

  • Succession planning in family foundations 

  • Charity governance and trustee responsibilities 

  • Ethical and responsible investment 

  • Equality, diversity and inclusion in grant making 

  • Emerging trends in philanthropy 

Guest speakers and sector experts are invited to share insights and stimulate discussion. 

Strengthening philanthropy across Surrey 

By connecting families who share a commitment to giving, the Network helps strengthen Surrey’s charitable landscape. 

Members gain opportunities to learn from one another, explore collaborative approaches to funding and develop philanthropic practices that support charities sustainably, including multi-year and flexible funding.
