Spelthorne Community Fund celebrates its 5th Anniversary!

The Spelthorne Community Fund was launched in 2020 by Chairman Nick Wood-Dow DL at an event kindly hosted by Kempton Park. Today, we returned to the Racecourse to celebrate five years of making a difference in our community.

The Fund is part of the Community Foundation for Surrey’s family of local funds. It was established as a permanent resource to support local residents, community projects, and voluntary groups across the borough of Spelthorne.

Since its launch, Spelthorne Community Fund has awarded a total of £26,553 in grants, supporting a wide variety of community groups and benefiting more than 7,500 people in need throughout the borough.

At today’s celebration, the High Sheriff of Surrey, Mr Peter Cluff, paid tribute to the dedication and hard work of the Fund’s volunteer panel, who have worked tirelessly over the past five years to raise funds and support the community. He also expressed gratitude to the Fund’s generous donors — individuals, local businesses, and Spelthorne Borough Council, which has matched donations pound for pound, doubling the impact of every contribution.

Dr Beccy Bowden, Chief Executive of the Community Foundation for Surrey, said: “I am very grateful to Nick Wood-Dow DL for having the vision to create this Fund, to the volunteers for their incredible commitment, and of course to the donors for their support. Today’s event is a true celebration of what can be achieved when good people come together to support those in need in their local community. Together, we really can achieve wonderful things!”
